WHAT IS BRIDGING BLOCKS?

Bridging Blocks is a community engagement initiative that brings people together on complex and often divisive issues to foster civic dialogue in supportive spaces. Bridging Blocks helps participants build the skills to engage thoughtfully across differing perspectives. One of their goals is to empower community members to become actively engaged in civic life and use their voice in shaping the future of their communities. Through this process, they aim to foster a sense of political awareness and empowerment.

Friends Village will host a program facilitated by WHYY on the second Thursday of every month starting in February with a new topic every month.

July 9th, 2026:  As We Age, Who Decides?

Older adults are faced with many decisions as they age and have evolving needs. While they may have differences in cognitive abilities over time, wisdom from lived experience only grows deeper. Senior independence and personal decision making is a challenging reality for millions of Americans, as society discounts wisdom over strength.

For example, who decides when you should stop driving or living in your home? How are the opinions and perspectives of those around you affected by ageism? What should happen when an individual does not recognize their own cognitive impairment?  What is fair to the older person who is still highly capable?

Join us in a community conversation to discuss this complex and important subject.
