Discover the history, traditions and cultural significance of this beautiful ritual as guest presenter, Miyo Moriuchi, guides us through its graceful movements, and mindful preparation. Miyo has been practicing Chado,or the Way of Tea, for 22 years. She began in 1971 in Tokyo. After a long break, she resumed in Philadelphia in 2004. She is a member of, and serves on the Board of Directors of the Urasenke Tankokai of Philadelphia. (Urasenke is one of the three main schools of tea.).

Shodo, Japanese Calligraphy

Engage in the Harmony of Ink, Brush and Movement in this timeless tradition.
Be part of a hands-on Japanese calligraphy (Shodo) class. Michelle Arnot will introduce the history and techniques of this traditional art form before guiding you in creating your own masterpiece. Participants will learn to paint one kanji (character) and an ink drawing of an apple. Experience, the harmony of ink, brush and movement in this timeless tradition. No prior experience needed.
Michelle Arnot, ranked 6-dan (master) by Nihon Shuuji, the Japanese Calligraphy Society. She is a student of 102-year-old Seikou Kaneko and is ranked 8-dan (top master). Michelle's work has been exhibited in New York City, Tokyo, and elsewhere. She began her practice while living in Tokyo.
