National Influenza Vaccination Week

December 2024

December 2nd - 6th is National Influenza Vaccine Week!

While the holidays are a time to spread cheer, they also present more opportunities to spread flu and other respiratory viruses as people resume travel and gather with family & friends.

This national week is a reminder for everyone aged 6 months and older that there is still time to get a flu vaccine.

The flu remains a significant public health concern, and since the virus constantly changes and protection from the vaccination decreases over time, getting vaccinated every year is the best way to reduce your risk from the flu.

Both the influenza & COVID-19 vaccines are recommended, and it’s important to stay up-to-date with both.

Flu vaccines are critical for people with certain chronic health conditions. Adults with asthma, heart disease, diabetes, and other conditions are at a higher risk of developing serious flu complications, including hospitalization or death.

9 out of 10 adults hospitalized with flu had reported at least one underlying condition.

Actions to Protect Yourself & Others From the Flu

  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick

  • Stay home when you are sick

  • Cover coughs and sneezes

  • Wash your hands

  • Take steps for cleaner air (i.e., bringing in fresh outside air or using an air purifier)

  • Sanitize and disinfect high contact areas
