Quaker City, Philadelphia’s Quaker Experiment & Historic Preservation
Join Arch Street Meeting House Preservation Trust Executive Director Sean Connolly as he discusses the founding of Pennsylvania as a Quaker colony. Sean will explore the legacy of Quaker colonial government, expand upon the roles Quakers played during the Revolutionary Era, touching on movements that Quakers are still involved with today.
As a core example of this Quaker influence Sean will delve into the Arch Street Meeting House, a National Historic Landmark and museum in Old City Philadelphia which is currently undergoing several major preservation projects and reinterpretation ahead of the Semiquincentennial of the United States in 2026, the meetinghouse will soon be better preserved for future generations of visitors and tourists who come to learn about Quaker history in the City of Philadelphia. He looks forward to sharing these important updates.
Sean is the Executive Director of the Arch Street Meeting House Preservation Trust which operates the Arch Street Meeting House as a museum and historic site. Previously, Sean oversaw education programs at Pennsbury Manor, was the Assistant Director of Historic Philadelphia’s Once Upon A Nation storytelling program and has taught history at Drexel University.
